Frequently Asked Questions

Here are some common questions about our massage and skincare services. Click on a question to see the answer. If you don’t find your question here, feel free to contact us.

What is included in the session time?

A 60-minute massage session includes 50 minutes of hands-on massage, plus time for undressing, redressing, and pre- and post-consultation. During the consultation, you’ll discuss your concerns with the Massage Therapist, customize your session, and get recommendations for at-home care to extend the benefits.

Do I have to be completely undressed?

Undress to a level that makes you comfortable. For a full-body massage, most guests undress completely except for their underwear. If you’re uncomfortable removing certain clothing, your Massage Therapist will work around it, but keep in mind that staying too covered might limit the benefits. Your Massage Therapist will give you privacy to undress and get settled on the table, and it’s best to remove all jewelry.

Will I be covered during the session?

Yes, you’ll be properly covered or draped throughout the session to keep you warm and comfortable. Only the area being worked on will be exposed. Always let your Massage Therapist know if you’re uncomfortable for any reason during your massage.

What should I do during the massage?

Make yourself comfortable. Your Massage Therapist will guide you if they need you to adjust your position, or you can move to a more comfortable position on your own. Some people prefer to close their eyes and relax, while others like to chat—either way is fine. Feel free to ask questions or request adjustments to the pressure at any time.

Can I talk during my session?

Absolutely! If you feel like talking, go ahead. The key is to relax and enjoy the experience. Some people start by talking and then quiet down as the massage progresses. It’s important to speak up if anything feels uncomfortable or if you need adjustments to the pressure, temperature, or lighting.

Will the massage hurt?

A light, relaxing massage shouldn’t hurt. However, deep tissue massage can be more intense. If the pressure becomes too painful, let your Massage Therapist know right away so they can adjust. It’s important to communicate, as pain can cause your muscles to tense up, reducing the benefits of the massage.

How often should I get a massage?

Frequency varies based on your needs. If you’re addressing specific issues, you may need more frequent sessions initially. Once those concerns are managed, you can shift to a maintenance schedule based on your Massage Therapist’s recommendations. For general relaxation and upkeep, a session every 3-4 weeks is often sufficient.

When should I avoid getting a massage?

Certain conditions, like a fever, cold/flu, or contagious skin infection, are contraindications for massage. Other conditions, such as arthritis or osteoporosis, may require adjustments in technique or avoidance of certain areas. If you have conditions like cancer, specific heart issues, or are in the first trimester of pregnancy, it’s wise to consult your physician before scheduling a massage.

How will I feel after my massage treatment?

Most people feel deeply relaxed, and some experience a significant reduction in chronic aches and pains. You may feel a bit sluggish at first, followed by increased energy, awareness, and productivity that can last for days. After a deep tissue massage, mild soreness similar to post-exercise soreness is possible. Drinking extra water can help keep your tissues hydrated and alleviate any lingering discomfort.

Am I expected to tip my Massage Therapist?

Tipping is always appreciated but not mandatory. If you received exceptional service, a tip between 20-25% is common. You can add the tip to your total if you’re paying by credit card or check.

Are there any cancellation fees?

Cancellations made with less than 12 hours’ notice or missed appointments may be subject to a cancellation fee up to the cost of the scheduled service. Please try to give at least 12 hours’ notice if you need to reschedule.

What if I fall asleep, snore, pass gas, or drool during my massage?

These are normal bodily responses to relaxation, and there’s no need to be embarrassed. It just means you’re enjoying the session!

What if I have body acne, skin conditions, or forgot to shave?

Our Massage Therapists have seen it all, so there’s no need to feel self-conscious. They focus on creating a therapeutic experience, not on appearances. Your Massage Therapist may even be able to suggest products or techniques to help with any concerns.

What does a Massage Therapist’s license or certification mean?

A license indicates that a Massage Therapist has met state or board requirements to practice legally in your area. This typically involves completing a minimum number of training hours at an accredited school or training center.

Will massage oils make me break out?

Most Massage Therapists use hypoallergenic oils or lotions. If you have any sensitivities, let your Massage Therapist know—they can choose a product that’s right for you.

Why does a Massage Therapist ask about my medical history?

Certain medical conditions may make massage unsuitable, as mentioned earlier. The intake form you complete before your first visit includes a brief medical history to help your Massage Therapist avoid anything that could cause harm. This form also covers lifestyle and daily activity details, helping your Therapist choose the most effective techniques to address your concerns.
